Key Messages

  • Reimbursement reviews of drugs later in the life cycle include a comprehensive assessment of clinical value, unmet clinical need, distinct social and ethical considerations, economic considerations, and impacts on the health systems.
  • The assessments inform nonbinding recommendations that help guide the reimbursement decisions of Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial drug plans and cancer agencies.
  • This review assesses Olaparib 150 mg oral tablets.
  • Indication under consideration for reimbursement:
    • Olaparib is indicated as monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with deleterious or suspected deleterious germline BRCA-mutated, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer who have been previously treated with chemotherapy in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant, or metastatic setting.
    • Patients with hormone receptor–positive breast cancer should have been treated with a prior endocrine therapy or be considered inappropriate for endocrine therapy. Germline BRCA mutation must be confirmed before olaparib treatment is initiated.
