Key Messages

  • We are committed to keeping our Guidelines for the Economic Evaluation of Health Technologies up to date, and we review developments in methods to assess whether updates are required.
  • Assessing the benefits of health interventions for children (i.e., those aged younger than 18 years) is an important aspect of economic evaluation and a priority area for our organization.
  • Despite significant progress and ongoing research, we found that there continues to be a lack of consensus on how to measure and value health-related quality of life in children. Therefore, we did not identify a need to update our guidelines at this time.
  • When sponsors prepare submissions, we recommend they provide sufficient detail and transparency concerning the methodologies they used to measure and value child health-related quality of life, and that they justify their choice of generic preference-based instruments and value sets for the intended age ranges.
